Prickly Pear Cay, sometimes spelled Prickley Pear, is located six miles north of Road Bay, Anguilla. The small pair of uninhabited islands are divided by a narrow boat channel between Prickly Pear East and Prickly Pear West. The Western smaller cay consists of mainly rocky coral reefs and shrubs with no easy access to the island. The Eastern Cay has a similar terrain on the south side but once you pass through the passage between the two cays, on the North side, you’ll be treated to a long, beautiful white sand beach with turquoise waters ideal for snorkeling.
In addition to snorkeling and hiking, visitors can bird watch as well. Nesting birds are a common sight along the rocky coast line. The two cays have been identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International because of their breeding seabirds.
Prickly Pear Bar & Restaurant has been in operation for over twenty years. The restaurant was tastefully rebuilt after Hurricane Luis in 1995 which destroyed 90% of the original buildings. The new buildings, which went through another round of upgrades after Hurricane Irma in 2017, are situated in the midst of a well-groomed lawn which normally has a life of its own around lunch time with ground lizards scurrying around in search of leftovers. Whether you sit and enjoy lunch at the main building, on the new deck, lounge chair on the beach or in one of our cabanas, one thing’s for sure, the living is easy on Prickly Pear.
The turquoise and blue water is certainly not the only thing to transport you to a place of ultimate relaxation. Watch Sugar Birds (Banana Quits) dart around the building in search of rice or sugar. If you are lucky, they may eat directly from your hands leaving you in totally awe.
Our Chef has put together a well-appointed menu that includes BBQ Chicken and Ribs, freshly caught Lobster, Crayfish and salads that is sure to satisfy even the youngest member of your family. To round out our menu, we have hand selected alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to compliment your dining experience.
To conclude your day of ultimate fun and relaxation, we offer water sports equipment such as paddle board, kayak, snorkeling and seabob for rent. Beach massages as well as Hiking/Bird Watching tours are available upon request. We are open Tuesday – Sunday 11am – 4pm. We suggest that you call ahead for Groups of 10 or more so we can be prepared to host you.
We look forward to spending the day hosting you on this island gem.
